But have you ever wondered if there's a way to enjoy sprinkles that are not only delightful but also healthy? This year, we’re taking National Sprinkle Day up a notch with a recipe for homemade, nutritious sprinkles that you can feel good about sharing with your kids!

Why Celebrate National Sprinkle Day?

National Sprinkle Day is all about adding a splash of color and joy to our everyday lives. Sprinkles represent celebration, creativity, and fun, making them a perfect way to enhance any treat or dessert. This day is an excellent opportunity to gather in the kitchen with your little ones, unleash your creativity, and make some delicious memories together.

The Magic of Healthy Sprinkles

Traditional sprinkles are often loaded with sugar, artificial colors, and other additives. While they’re undeniably fun, we can make our own healthier version that still brings the same level of excitement. Our healthy sprinkle recipe uses natural ingredients, so you can indulge in the fun without the guilt.

Healthy Sprinkle Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup

  • Natural food coloring (beet juice for red, spinach juice for green, turmeric for yellow, blueberry juice for blue)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Natural Colorings:

  • For red: Use beet juice.

  • For green: Use spinach juice.

  • For yellow: Use turmeric dissolved in a little water.

  • For blue: Use blueberry juice.

  1. Mix the Shredded Coconut:

  • Divide the shredded coconut into separate bowls for each color you plan to make.

  1. Add Color:

  • Add a small amount of natural coloring to each bowl of shredded coconut. Mix thoroughly until the coconut is evenly colored. Adjust the amount of coloring to achieve your desired shade.

  1. Sweeten the Coconut:

  • In a small saucepan, melt the coconut oil and mix in the honey or maple syrup until well combined.

  1. Combine and Dry:

  • Pour the coconut oil mixture over the colored coconut in each bowl. Mix until the coconut is well coated.

  • Spread the colored coconut on a baking sheet in a thin layer. Let it dry at room temperature or in a low-temperature oven (about 200°F) until completely dry and crunchy. This may take several hours.

  1. Break into Sprinkles:

  • Once dried, break the coconut into small pieces to create your sprinkles.

  1. Store and Enjoy:

  • Store your homemade healthy sprinkles in an airtight container. Use them to decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or any treat that could use a sprinkle of fun!
